Biography

Daniel is an Instructor and Data Science Postdoctoral Scholar at the UC Berkeley Information School. He has previously conducted research for Lawrence Berkeley National Lab on energy saving devices, and for the Human-Centered Data Science Lab at the University of Washington on scientific collaboration and learning games. Prior to his work as a researcher, Daniel founded and ran a digital media start-up for several years in Austin, Texas.

Daniel holds a B.A in Anthropology from Brown University, and a Master of Information Management & Systems from the UC Berkeley Information School. He completed his Ph.D. research in Human Centered Design & Engineering (HCDE) at the University of Washington on work with youth to design and deploy a bioinformatics learning game.

Current Research

My research focuses on the intersection of gaming with scientific and engineering collaborations. I’m interested in ways that gaming and virtual environments can be used for science learning, data visualization, and creative design practices.
