Since March 2020, in response to the global pandemic COVID-19, many social containment measures have been in place including the closure of schools. As a result, students have adopted remote learning as their everyday “new normal.” As a team, we all experienced first-hand benefits and challenges that came with remote learning. We would like to understand how students keep themselves motivated, how they find and get support from their communities, and how they meet their goals for getting an education during this big transition to remote learning.

We are reimagining a world where education institutions will adopt remote learning as part of their curriculum in the future. Our goal is to find ways to increase students’ satisfaction level with their overall learning experience. We have spent a semester designing a product that not only compensates for the shortcomings of remote learning but also leverages its benefits. Our product tracks and visualizes students’ focus time to increase their motivations, uses the power of study buddy and mutual support to improve productivity level, and compensates for the missing social interactions to cultivate more meaningful relationships with their peers.
