Alumni Accounts
Alumni CalNet Account
Alumni are eligible to keep the same CalNet account. That account provides login access to:
- School of Information resources, including:
- I School Intranet
- I School career services
- Berkeley campus resources, including:
- Transcripts
- Job and internship postings
- Berkeley Career Center alumni career services
- Lifelong learning
- Berkeley alumni directory through the my.berkeley.edu alumni portal
Your CalNet account will remain active after you graduate — but you must log into your CalNet account regularly in order to keep it. Alumni CalNet accounts will be deactivated after six months of inactivity (not logging in).
If you have trouble logging in to your CalNet account, you can change your passphrase at mycalnet.berkeley.edu.
If you need further assistance with your CalNet account, email itcshelp@berkeley.edu for assistance.
After you graduate, you will receive a series of automated emails warning you that your CalNet account will “expire” nine months after graduation. These emails are not true. Instead, your CalNet account will transition to an alumni CalNet account, with access to a different set of online resources. But as long as you authenticate via CalNet regularly (to check your email, log into the I School website, etc.), your CalNet account will not expire.
Email & bConnected Account
New alumni are eligible to maintain their Berkeley email accounts. This will be the same account you used as a student, including both your @berkeley.edu and @ischool.berkeley.edu email addresses. Alumni email access is provided by Berkeley’s University Development and Alumni Relations department.
In order to keep your account active, you must renew your account before the end of your nine-month grace period & renew your account annually. If your account lapses, it will not be reenabled.
Current students
Students will not be able to renew their accounts until after they have graduated.
New graduates
New graduates will be able to renew their accounts after the campus has recorded your graduation — about one month after the end of your last semester. You must renew your account after your graduation has been recorded and before the end of your nine-month grace period.
Previous graduates
This service is available only to alumni who currently have active bConnected accounts. If you graduated before alumni bConnected accounts were available or if you allowed your account to lapse before September 2023, the campus alumni relations team will not create or recreate an account for you.
If you had an active alumni account as of September 2023, you will need to renew your account and meet new quota limits ASAP. Unrenewed accounts will be deleted beginning October 15, 2024.
Renew your alumni email account
Alumni accounts have a 5 GB storage quota. Storage quotas count the combined storage in Gmail and Google Drive. Multi-factor authentication is required.
If you have another current affiliation (current student, employee, visiting scholar, etc.), you will not be able to sign up for alumni email until that affiliation ends.
