Information Access Seminar: Phyllis Reuther, Sprint Labs
Mobile analytics includes understanding the communications and internet behaviors of large numbers of people. It can be used to understand the longitudinal behaviors of an individual and aggregate or “crowdsourced” behaviors. Telecommunications companies, who have a deep personal relationship to their individual customers, have been unwilling to leverage usage data for researching behavior except to better understand impact on network performance. At Sprint Labs, we are researching a variety of questions concerning how location, movement, and social interaction of 50 million subscribers can be used to understand and predict population behavior.
Phyllis Reuther currently manages the Advanced Technology Lab at Sprint Nextel, researching mobile behavior and creating new mobile technologies. Previous to Sprint, she co-founded, as CTO, Mobile Content Networks, white-label mobile search and advertising platform, and CloudTalk, an asynchronous voice messaging service; and served as strategic enterprise architect for search and classification at Documentum, the market leader in enterprise content management.
