At the 2006 CHI conference, Professor Marti Hearst announced the release of the Flamenco browse and search system as an open source software package.
The Flamenco team developed and popularized the use of faceted metadata for flexible navigation of information collections. Interest in this approach has been gaining traction in industry; the release of the open source Flamenco code will allow organizations of all sizes to incorporate faceted browsing into their web interfaces.
