Professor Marti Hearst has been appointed to the usage panel for the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language.
The usage panel is a group of some 200 distinguished educators, writers, and public speakers who assist the American Heritage Dictionary with their judgments concerning difficult or disputed usage. Most of its members are writers, editors, critics, or educators, while others hold distinguished positions in law, government, diplomacy, medicine, science, business, and the arts. Other members include Harold Bloom, William F. Buckley, Jr., Joan Didion, John Kenneth Galbraith, Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Antonin Scalia, and Calvin Trillin.
