School of Information alumnus Ashkan Soltani (MIMS 2009) will testify Wednesday before the United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, & Transportation, when the committee conducts a hearing on the state of online consumer privacy.
Soltani’s master’s final project, KnowPrivacy, with Joshua Gomez and Travis Pinnick (both MIMS 2009) studied the state of web privacy, data collection, and information sharing and was a winner of the Dr. James R. Chen Award.
Since graduation, Soltani has served as a staff technologist in the Federal Trade Commission’s Division of Privacy and Identity Protection, working on investigations related to Internet technology and consumer privacy. He was also the primary technical consultant on the Wall Street Journal’s “What They Know” series, which investigated Internet privacy issues on the ground.
The text of Soltani’s written testimony is available on the Senate’s website.
