Biography

Qichen Liu is a Data Scientist at Citi with over 4 years of experience in front office quantitative research (algorithmic trading in Equities, FX, Commodities, and Derivatives) and data science in technology (machine learning algorithms, computer vision, and natural language processing).

He is now studying part-time in Master of Information and Data Science program at UC Berkeley, focusing on machine learning. Before that, he graduated with Master’s degree in mathematics from University of Wisconsin-Madison and Bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, a top-3 university in China. He is known for his exceptional problem-solving capabilities gained through long-term Math Olympiad training since childhood. At the age of 17, he won Informatics Olympiad medalist and American Mathematics Competitions medalist in China Area.

He has strong programming skills in Python (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, etc.), C/C++, MATLAB, R, and SQL, and he is familiar with deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow and PyTorch) and big data tools (e.g., Hadoop/Hive and Spark).

He is regarded as an out-of-the-box thinker with ingenuity and strategic thinking, always hoping to stay enterprising and brilliant. He enjoys reading and playing chess at his leisure, and his favorite sports are soccer and billiards.
