I School alumnus Joyojeet Pal (MIMS 2004) was awarded the "Best Paper" award at the 2010 iConference for his paper "Of mouse and men: Computers and geeks as cinematic icons in age of ICTD."
After completing his MIMS degree in 2004, Pal went on to receive a Ph.D. in city and regional planning from UC Berkeley.
Pal is currently a NSF Computing Innovation fellow at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and a visiting professor at the Polytechnic Institute of New York University.
Pal's research examines various uses of computers in developing regions from a public policy perspective, including computer uses in Indian primary schools, in public Internet centers in urban Brazil, and in telecenters in India. He has also worked on design issues around technology interventions in developing regions.
