Berkeley Professor Warns Courts Of AI’s Danger

A University of California, Berkeley, computer science professor warned court leaders at the National Center for State Courts’ biennial eCourts conference Monday that generative artificial intelligence tools can be used by criminals to commit fraud.

In a keynote speech, Hany Farid showed conference attendees how generative AI can create a realistic video of someone with a single image. As an example, he used a video of actor Jack Nicholson to animate a photo of a young man.

“There is nothing it won’t do. You’re limited only by your imagination,” Farid said.

During his keynote presentation, Farid explained how generative AI technology works, showed examples of different types of content generative AI can create, addressed some of the challenges generative AI can create for courts and went into how those challenges can be tackled...
