Biography

Ollie Downs is an incoming 5th Year Master in Information and Data Science Student. They completed their BA in Integrative Biology at UC Berkeley in 2019, and are interested in the intersection of biology and data science.

Ollie’s main interest is the intersection of data science and ethics, as well as the human contexts of data—especially data’s role in the construction of communities. They will be a Graduate Student Instructor for the undergraduate course Human Contexts and Ethics of Data (HIST C184D), co-taught by Professors Margo Boenig-Lipstin and Ari Edmundson.

The data science community has been incredibly impactful for Ollie during their college journey. They have been involved in work with the Division of Data Science for 2 years, participating in Data Scholars, the Modules program, and the HCE working group.

Ollie is a non-binary, transgender student who uses they/them pronouns. They are excited to serve as a mentor to other LGBTQ+ students and to be a visible part of the MIDS community.
