Francois will discuss his journey to Databricks and describe a typical day in the life of a data scientist there. He’ll also talk about his cutting-edge work on Databricks with Delta Lake and Redash. In the demo portion of his talk, he will illustrate how Databricks can enable you to do data engineering, data analysis, and data science with a single tool. The demo will use an e-commerce dataset and feature Spark SQL, Spark ML, Delta, and Redash.

Francois Callewaert received a master’s in engineering from Ecole Polytechnique, Paris. He holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Northwestern University. After a three-month data science fellowship at the Data Incubator in Oakland, CA, Francois joined Microsoft as an applied scientist for the Office 365 customer support team, where he worked for two years on data-driven improvements of the customer support experience. He joined the data team at Databricks as a data scientist in March 2020, where he has been working on customer and product analytics.
