UC Berkeley’s nascent Student Innovation Program has a position open for a Service Design Student Intern. This position will be part time during the academic year 2018-19.
POSITION SUMMARY
Working with faculty, staff, and students, the Service Design Student Intern will assist in the planning, execution and evaluation of pilot services such as events, tools and informational resources to support student innovation for the Berkeley campus.
Types of services and resources:
- Courses and academic programs into which innovation projects can be integrated
- Existing and proposed campus programs and projects with their teams, technology stacks and/or other elements
- Funding for student teams
- Paths to visibility to potential employers, such as public code repositories and web presence
- Program engagement with the private sector
- Information sessions and materials to inform students about innovation at Berkeley:
- How projects are manifested on campus
- Tracks: CEO + for-profit vs. team + non-profit
- Team composition
- Strategies for creating and working on a teaM
- Team composition
- Tracks: CEO + for-profit vs. team + non-profit
- How projects are manifested on campus
- Other resources as the Program is developed
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Service Design Intern will:
- Work with campus organizations to develop collaborative events in support of student teams and projects
- Work with faculty to identify opportunities to integrate innovation projects with academic programs and courses
- Work with staff to identify relevant project groups that can incorporate students onto their teams, collaborate with students, provide resources such as APIs, etc.
- Work with student organizations to identify potential student teams, and resources
- Work with outside organizations to identify resources and events that could support innovation at Berkeley.
REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be:
- Enrolled as a full-time student at UC Berkeley.
- Able to work a minimum of 10 hours per week through the academic year
The Service Design Intern must have skills, experience and/or interest in the several of the following areas:
- Innovation
- Event and program development
- Networking and community development
- Media creation (written materials, still images, video)
- Design thinking
- Business and technology
- Non-IT innovation
- Project management
- Student life
- Software development
- Hardware development
