Position Overview

The Autodesk Experience Design (XD) team in San Francisco, is seeking a summer Experience Design Research Intern to support initiatives with cross disciplinary product teams to investigate and help define ideal product experiences for our customers. The Experience Design Researcher at Autodesk is a relentless customer advocate, possesses a passion for human-centered design, and has a track record of executing highly impactful research with cross-functional teams. Our researchers leverage a wide variety of research methods and work in lockstep with their teams to envision, validate, and ship high-quality experiences our customers will love.

Our Team

The Experience Design (XD) team provides design leadership and promotes excellence across product lines marked as key growth areas for Autodesk. This team is spread out in offices around the globe and includes the practice areas of experience design, visual design, research, content strategy, and program management. Together, we support Autodesk’s growing cloud and mobile service portfolio, and share a common goal of customer-centricity, connected experiences across our products, and high quality of work product and employee talent.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Senior Experience Design Researchers to plan and execute customer research throughout the design and development lifecycle, from early strategic direction through post-release validation
  • Employ a range of research methods, qualitative or quantitative, to help product teams understand the customer’s experience:
  • Qualitative research methods can include generative design research and contextual inquiry, participatory design workshops, interviews, formative and summative usability studies
  • Quantitative methods can include surveys or applying data science methods to extract insights from usage data about the product experience
    • Assisting with empathy and design-thinking workshops with cross-functional teams to ensure that findings and insights are translated into actionable product goals and direction
    • Sharing customer insights with the broader organization in creative ways to increase customer empathy, including posters, immersion rooms, blog posts, and workshops

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a full-time student, pursuing a MS or PhD in user experience design, human-computer interaction, information science, data science, or a related field
  • Your school must be a U.S. accredited university and you have at least one semester to complete after the internship
  • Demonstrated experience with conducting user research studies and documenting findings (user research for class projects is acceptable)
  • Experience with design tools such as OmniGraffle, Sketch, and inVision, as they relate to interaction and user interface design

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with data visualization or analytics platforms such as Tableau, Google Analytics
  • Familiarity with data manipulation tools such as SQL, Python, or R to work with large data sets
  • Knowledge of the Autodesk family of software products or knowledge of manufacturing, architecture, or engineering fields
  • Familiarity with web/mobile development languages/platforms
