BioE GSIs (multiple positions) (Department of Linguistics)

BioE 115 (Tissue Engineering Lab) is looking for a 10 hr/week AND 20 hr/week GSI for the Spring semester.

This class provides a conceptual and practical understanding of cell and tissue bioengineering that is vital for careers in medicine, biotechnology, and bioengineering. Students are introduced to cell biology laboratory techniques, including immunofluorescence, quantitative image analysis, protein & gene expression, and cell culture on matrices of variable adhesion, rigidity, biochemical composition, with bio-printed 2D and 3D set-ups. The course culminates with a group project.  The experimental hypothesis for the project is provided by the instructors, and the research plans are developed by the students under the guidance of the instructors. The project proposals are presented in class where students demonstrate their learning of the theory, experimental design and biomedical significance of their projects, which are gained through their understanding of the lectures and the guidance on how to apply such material to the development of their research plan. The proposal presentations are followed by guided experimental work that synthesizes daily experimental plans, implementation, troubleshooting, and analysis of results. The interpretation of the results – findings is combined with review of relevant literature (from the list provided by instructors for undergraduates; and expanding this list to a broader project-relevant field, for GSRs). In lieu of the Final exam the class ends with a Poster Session where, students prepare and present posters on the outcomes of their guided research projects
