How AI generated images are polluting information on the Israel-Hamas war
Images and videos of the destruction from the Israel-Hamas war are easy to find, especially on platforms like Facebook or X. What’s trickier is determining if what you’re seeing is real or fake.
Both sides are using deepfake images and spreading false information which can shape public opinion and political decisions, while also making it harder to determine what’s really happening.
To tell us more about how deepfakes and AI images are impacting the conflict, we’re joined on the KCBS Ring Central Newsline by Hany Farid, professor with UC Berkeley’s School of Information specializing in image forensics.
Hany Farid is a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences and the School of Information at UC Berkeley and a senior advisor to the Counter Extremism Project.
