Biography

Amit is a senior engineer at IonQ, a quantum computing company building the next generation of computers using trapped-ion technology.  He leads machine learning efforts using data to stabilze and improve system performance.  He holds a PhD in physics and is currently working at the intersection of physics-based engineering and machine learning.

Previously he led data science efforts at Vox Media (digital publishing) and Teachers Pay Teachers (online education marketplace).  Prior to that, he has over 12 years of working as a quant in the financial industry at various major banks and hedge funds.

Amit has been teaching Machine Learning (207) in MIDS for a number of years and looks to bring real-world experiences into the classroom especially in the areas of network graphs and recommender systems.   More recently he teaches Natural Language Processing (266) which is the basic underpinning of all the latest large-language models.   

Amit lives outside New York City with his wife and teenage daughters.  In his spare time, he enjoys hiking and skiing (uphill).
