Focus

My goal is to retool my career to apply data science competencies to problem solving. With an endless supply of data no problem seems too big, only some may seem impossible. That is interesting.

Biography

I spent 12 years in the US Navy serving aboard two submarines (USS Daniel Webster and USS Benjamin Franklin) and a submarine tender (USS Hunley) in Scotland. I was a navigation electronics Chief Petty Officer (CPO) when I left the Navy to become a full-time husband and father.

Over the past 23 years as a civilian employed at Bosch located in Charleston SC, I have served as a business systems analyst, programmer, technical instructor, and a production maintenance technician. My career has lead me to the present in which I am working with more complicated and larger data sets, data analysis, statistics, and data visualization.

The joy of my life Grace and I have been married for a long time. We've raised five children; homeschooling them over 25 years. She and I are both nerds. In fact, she helped me to conduct experiments on her friends to support my Field Experiments course. She is awesome and I am a blessed man.

My hobbies and interests have ranged from game programming (C++) to aquaculture/aquaponics to reading about hyper space and astronomy to tinkering with the internet.

I have completed the MIDS program. I have enjoyed all my classes, instructors, and team projects. The assignments, although not so enjoyable at times, were most certainly challenging and I have become a much better person for seeing them through completion. If I had to do it all over again I would.
