Education, the industry I’ve worked in for 11 years, is filled with historically intractable problems. Tasks as illusorily straightforward as organizing a school master schedule, placing students in conceptually appropriate classes, or assigning accurate summative course marks to students are labor-intensive, error-prone undertakings that directly influence student educational outcomes. My focus is on researching and developing data science tools that improve educational outcomes.
