Optimizing Storage of Captured Carbon Dioxide in California
Team CaliCO2 is focused on enabling greenhouse gas sequestration in California in order to mitigate global climate change. Using industrial CO2 emissions, depleted oil and gas field capacity, and economic impact data, the project mathematically optimizes pairings between emissions and storage locations to minimize cost, visualizing results for regulators at the California EPA.
Our visualizations show which projects are most economically efficient. Regulators can use our product to inform incentives for sequestration projects that use existing infrastructure to approach net-zero carbon emissions.
