Green Thumb AI
Green Thumb AI is a website and mobile app that can suggest what to plant in a hobby garden based on the number of sun hours, zone, time of year, the direction your garden is facing, and frost dates.
Our story begins with one of our team members struggling to start their own hobby garden on their balcony. They spent so much time, energy, and money to start their garden, only to discover that they couldn’t plant more than 75% of the seeds they bought because it was the wrong time of year to plant them. They realized through this experience that there must be an easier way to plan a garden that considers the time of year, the location, and the environmental conditions without burning a hole in their pocket.
Through our target audience research, we have observed a common trend among beginner gardeners that the learning curve for success in starting a hobby garden is very high and discourages beginners from starting. Our app would simplify the learning curve into smaller chunks so beginners can purchase and learn about the plants they can grow right now instead of all plants from every season. For more advanced gardeners, this would make budgeting more efficient as they can see what they can plant based on their initial preferences and can price compare before investing.
Our website uses machine learning recommendation technology and filtration methods to tailor the garden planning experience according to our customer’s preferences. Those preferences will update our Recommendations page with plants our users would most likely want to purchase or even recommend new plants they never knew existed. Additionally, our algorithm considers invasive species according to our user’s location, which labels them on our Recommendations page in case our users want to purchase more eco-friendly plants to grow in their hobby garden.
Our mission is to ensure that anyone interested in starting a hobby garden retains their excitement and has a fun and easy experience while planning.
